Sunken Garden

The Sunken Garden

Hi there,

So we have another installment from my recent trip to Vancouver Island.

Sunken Garden.2

Ross fountain

The Ross fountain which takes 2 hours to complete its display

After the exhilaration of seeing some Orcas we also managed to fit in some more sedate trips. Butchart Gardens was on the list of things to do and if you love flowers this is definitely one for you.We booked this tour through one of the many tour operators lined up in front of the Fairmont Empress hotel, but at $70 each we both felt this was a little overpriced even with transport and entry to the gardens included.

GardenIt’s also worth getting here early as this is one of Victoria’s top attractions receiving close to a million visitors each year. We arrived around 11am and it was rammed with people.Japense gardenThe garden is split into sections and includes the Italian gardens, the Japanese gardens, the Ross fountain, the sunken garden, the rose garden and the star pond.Sunken Garden.3

Spot rose

The rose garden was definitely my favourite judging by how many photos I took and it smelled incredible, but sadly we only allowed ourselves two hours as we wanted to visit Craigdarroch Castle later in the day. However, I wish we’d missed the other attraction and stayed here longer as it was a beautiful sunny day and perfect for just chilling out with a cold drink. I also missed the carousel, which was a bummer!
