Hi there,

Part two of my gift guide focuses on buying gifts for him because when it comes to Christmas, and birthdays for that matter, I always think that it’s much harder to buy for the men in your life. They don’t seem to need or want as much as us women so you always need a couple of some safe options to fall back on.

Idea 1: Underwear and socks

Although socks and pants are one of the safest options it’s always a good to have them as a back up present or stocking filler. However, socks and pants don’t have to be boring. One of my Husband’s favourite brands is Happy Socks as they have a lot of fun designs so this is good news for me as it means an easy present can be ticked off the list straight away.

Happy Socks can be found online, (always check for a discount code beforehand), in Selfridges and in TK Maxx.

Idea 2: Clothes:

Although I would never dream of picking my Husband’s clothes T-shirts, Polo shirts and smart shirts make great presents and are an easy option so long as you know what he does and doesn’t like. Good brands to choose from include: Peaceful Hooligan, Lyle and Scott, Penguin or Fred Perry and if you hunt around you can generally pick up some good bargains around this time of the year.

Idea 3: Wallet or card holder

Long time readers of this blog will know that packaging is very much my thing so when my Husband recently got a new job I wanted to surprise him with a practical, but beautifully presented gift. After much research online I had narrowed it down to two brands – Aspinal of London and Smythson. In the I decided to get him a new card holder from Smythson as both the colour and the quality of the leather really stood out and looked amazing, but I have to say that the packaging is to die for and I would love to receive one of these little blue boxes myself!

So if you’re currently looking for a leather wallet, card holder or ID holder then you can’t go far wrong with either of these brands. The quality of the leather is just stunning and they come in a range of traditional and fun colours. The prices at first may shock, but there are lots of online offers and discounts available at the moment (AW15 for 15% off at Aspinal of London) and with Smythson always check the sale page first as it’s definitely more affordable on that page!

Idea 4: Books and DVDs

Everyone always loves a good book or DVD to read and watch over the Christmas period and as usual there are plenty of categories to choose from. I always start with the sport and celebrity biographies first followed by war books, crime novels then if all else fails there is bound to be something in the cookery section.

My top picks would be:

  • Easily Distracted by Steve Coogan
  • Ricky Hatton’s Vegas Tales
  • Mo Hayder for crime
  • Martin Edwards for crime

I’m a big fan of box sets and I always try and pick one up each year for my Husband. If you’re on the lookout for something new to watch over Christmas then I can thoroughly recommend the following box sets:

  • Justified
  • Vikings
  • Person of Interest
  • The Following
  • Game of Thrones
  • Spiral
  • Ray Donovon
  • Survive That
  • Fast N Loud
  • Sons of Anarchy
  • Extreme Car Hoarders
  • I Believe in Miracles- Brian Clough

Idea 5: Toiletries

Of course Christmas wouldn’t be the same without a few smellies thrown in and although there are lots of giftsets available I always think it’s better value to create your own. And that means you can make it extra special by personalising it with items that you know they need, but necessarily won’t buy for themselves. Good items to go with include:

  • Body wash
  • Shampoo
  • Conditioner
  • Face wash
  • Face scrub
  • SPF
  • Deodorant
  • Aftershave (Only the Brave)
  • Man washer
  • Shaving gel
  • Razor
  • Razor blades

Idea 6: Gift voucher for hotel or restaurant

If none of the above appeal then there’s always the option of a gift voucher to stay in their favourite hotel or eat in their favourite restaurant and the good news is you can tag along as well. January is a great time to make bookings as generally everyone is spent up so businesses usually make more of an effort to entice people in.

  • In the interests of transparency this isn’t a sponsored post. The aim of this post is to give tips on what gifts to buy people if they’re struggling for ideas. All brands and products that have been mentioned in this post are based on my experience of buying and using them over a long period of time.
