Although a good portion of my recent holiday was spent eating, drinking and generally relaxing we did manage to fit in some nice walks along the way, definitely a good way to keep off the pounds and take advantage of the fabulous views!
So on a wet and misty Monday morning we set off for Alcock Tarn, which is a lake located in the fells about a mile and a half east of Grasmere.
Thankfully on the way down the weather cleared and brightened up so after completing the 3.5 miles in just over 2 hours we decided after a bit of lunch to set off on another walk. This time we were aiming for Chester’s by the River, a tea/gift shop which sits next to the river Brathay at Skelwith Bridge. Our starting point this time was the centre of Grasmere and after about 40 minutes of walking we were approaching the village of Elterwater.
From here we made our way past the lake of Elter Water and finally after two hours of walking we reached Chester’s. We skipped on the coffee and after a quick browse in the shop we decided to head back to Grasmere to catch up on some of our favourite DVDs. Our afternoon walk was roughly about 6 miles so in all it was a good day’s walking.
